The right color scheme can transform an event, setting the tone and creating a cohesive, memorable experience. When you go all in on the color scheme and utilize many shades of that color, it will make your event and your photos look beautiful. Here is how we like to select and implement a color palette that impresses:

Choosing the Perfect Palette

Choosing a color palette for an event can be based on any number of factors. You can choose your perfect palette based on a specific theme, based on your brand so you benefit from a consistent message, based on the time of day you are hosting an event where you can utilize bright colors to take advantage of daylight or play off of night themes, or based on cultural or seasonal choices. We love picking one main color and using complementary colors to enhance it.

Bringing the Colors to Life

Once you pick a color palette, the next steps are figuring out how to incorporate that into your event. We recommend mentally walking through the event space and thinking about where your focus takes you. In many spaces, the focus should be on linens, walls, and what is on top of your tables because when a room is filled with color and people, people don’t notice what is on the floor.

Here are examples of some of the tips we use to bring colors to life.

  • If you go with one color, be sure to utilize many shades of that color.
  • If it is an evening event, you can set the mood with darker lighting throughout the room and have lighter table linens to help offset the darkness.
  • Utilizing lighting throughout the room and adding gobo images in a lighter complimentary color really pops – you can spend a little more to have a custom gobo or ask your AV company if they have images that could work based on your theme.
  • Pick the main focal points in your space to decorate – decorating the entrance with a larger floral arrangement, complementing a lounge area with pillows and throws, or decorating ballroom tables with candles and florals to enhance the space and subtly echo the palette.
  • You can utilize your color palette to either help screens blend in or stand out depending on how you want guests to interact with them
  • With print materials, start by introducing the color early with your invitation and then match that on all of your event day signage, programs, menus, table numbers and more.
  • Continue your theme with food and drink like using a dessert station or signature cocktail that utilizes your color pallet.

Color can play a powerful role in making your guests feel connected to an event and creating a festive atmosphere. The right color scheme can help your guests feel the emotion of your experience and make them feel immersed in the celebration. Tying colors together in every element creates a cohesive environment that can enhance the theme of the event. This attention to detail makes guests feel more connected as they experience each element because it is subtly reinforcing the idea that this is something special.

A thoughtful color scheme ties every detail together, creating an event that’s polished and unforgettable. Choose wisely and watch your vision come to life! We love to partner with clients on maximizing the impact of your budget using these color tips and more.
